Egypt 1882-89, undated reverse, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (A. T. Snoad, A.B. H.M.S. "Temeraire"), slight pitting, very fine

Alfred Thomas Snoad was born in Surrey on 3 February 1858. He served aboard a number of vessels before joining Temeraire as Able Seaman. He was with the vessel when it took part in the Bombardment of Alexandria prior to the British Invasion of Egypt in 1882. The Temeraire engaged the Mex Forts during the bombardment, running aground in the process but being refloated by Condor and re-engaging. She continued to engage Egyptian shore batteries the next day to great effect. Following the bombardment the fleet landed an army which proceeded to restore the Khedive to power.

Snoad remained with the Temeraire for some time being promoted first to Leading Seaman and then to Petty Officer (2 Class). He ended his career aboard Duncan as Petty Officer (1 Class) in 1887; sold with copied Service Record.
