(x) Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Alma (Serjt. Fredk. Edmonds. 23rd Regt.), officially impressed naming, very fine

Frederick Edmonds was killed in action at the Battle of the Alma on 20 December 1854. On that day they lost their CO, Lieutenant-Colonel Harry Chester. Their actions that day are probably best immortalised in the painting by Desanges of Sergeant O'Connor, later Major-General, who saved their Colours and won the first Victoria Cross awarded to the British Army.
