This regiment later became the 1st Bengal Lancers - 'The Yellow Boys' - and had been founded in 1803 by James Skinner. The unit served with the force beseiged at Kandahar and were engaged in many hot clashes whilst on sorties against the enemy - losing, on one occasion, no less than 108 from a party of 180. They had previously performed a headlong charge near the Bolan Pass on 29 October 1840, when Captain Macpherson and all the Native Officers were wounded.
