Cabul 1842 (Wm. Keenan 31st Regt.), impressed naming, fitted with ornate swivel suspension and two silver clasps, pawnbroker's mark to rim, lacquered, very fine

The plain clasps are believed to represent ‘Marzenia’ and ‘Tazeane’ 1842.

William Keenan was an Irishman and joined the 31st Foot as a Recruit in February 1838, officially entering service on Christmas Eve 1839. He died of wounds on 29 November 1842, probably from the action at the Tezeen Pass. During that action the unit were on the right of Pollock's force and by the close of the day had reached the summit of the Haft Kotal, with two enemy guns and three Standards captured for the loss of 32 killed and 130 wounded; sold with copied details and roll extracts.
