Harry Carew, son of Captain Henry Carew, Royal Navy, was baptised at Cullumpton on 10 July 1792 and entered the East India Company as a Cadet aged 10. He was commissioned Lieutenant in the 17th Light Dragoons on 19 March 1814, serving in the campaigns on the Nerbudda (1814), in Kattywar and Kutch, at the Siege of Anjar (1815), in Dwarkar (1816), besides the Pindarrie campaign (1817-18) and Candeish (1820), before being placed on Half Pay on 28 August 1823.

Appointed Paymaster in the 17th Foot on 1 February 1831, he then joined the 13th Foot and served with them at Ghuznee. Placed again on Half Pay on 19 December 1850, he had been presented with a 'costly silver service' by Makepeace & Walford of Lincoln's Inn from the Officers of the 13th Foot whilst at Belfast in April that year. Carew died on 18 September at Booterstown, near Dublin; sold with copied research.
