Ewan Crowder was born at Birmingham around 1789 and served under age with the 22nd Light Dragoons for 2 years and 30 days from 25 March 1801. Having served with that unit until 15 October 1819, he transferred to the 8th Light Dragoons (later 8th Hussars) at Bangalore. Crowder was finally discharged 'long service, worn out' on 24 June 1823, having seen some 22 years 93 days of service, 20 years 325 days of which were seen in the East or West Indies; sold with copied discharge document (WO/97/36).
