Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (J. 28420 W. Fraser. P. O. H.M.S. Carlisle), wear, nearly very fine
William Fraser was born at Aberdeen on 24 July 1896. He joined the Royal Navy in November 1913, serving in Shore Establishments until August 1914 when he was posted to the dreadnought Agincourt. This was a newly built vessel which had been commissioned by the Brazilian Government but then sold to the Ottoman Empire prior to launch and was undergoing sea trials in Newcastle. At the start of the war, though prior to the Ottoman entry to the conflict, the British seized the Agincourt and her sister ship the Erin.
In October 1915 the Agincourt was transferred into the First Battle Squadron and the next year took part in the Battle of Jutland, firing over 200 shells over the course of the engagement. His L.S. & G.C. was issued in 1929; sold with copied Service Record.
