Edward Bath was born in 1891 and was living on West Street, Lacock, Chippenham, Wilshire in 1901. He served on the Western Front with 'D' Company, 7th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry and joined his unit on 30 September 1917 - commanded by the redoubtable Lieutenant-Colonel Troyte-Bullock (Medals previously sold in these rooms). It was during the Battle of Cambrai, when the unit was with 'F' Battalion, Tank Corps on 30 November 1917 that Bath was killed in action. During the attack they advanced through La Vacquerie in order to capture the bridge at Masnieres - which eventually collapsed under the weight of the Tanks. By the close of the action and the heavy counters which faced them, the 7th took severe casualties. Bath is commemorated upon the Cambrai Memorial and the Lacock Memorial; sold together with two identity tags, one impressed '36772 E Bath C E Som L I', the other named in ink 'Pte. E. Bath. Raybridge, Lacock W Chippenham Wilts England', transmittal envelope to his mother, torn, together with copied research.
