M.M. London Gazette 1 September 1916.

Arthur Ernest Senior was born at Thorpe St Matthew, Norfolk in 1883, one of nine children of Alfred and Kate Senior. Arthur served in France under the first initial 'L' and Regimental No. 750 from 23 August 1914. Having won his M.M., he was killed in action on 23 October 1916, when the 1st Battalion, Rifle Brigade were involved in the attacks to take Boritska and Hazy Trenches with the 1st Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. Attacking at 1430hrs - for the original Z-Hour of 1130hrs had been pushed back due to mist - they attacked in column and faced long range machine gun fire as they entered No Man's Land. Thankfully the German barrage fell well behind the sunken road from Les Boeufs to Morval. Having advanced 450 yards, they were held up under 'terrific machine gun fire' from the front and left front. By the end of play, they had suffered casualties of 5 Officers and 114 other ranks, Senior amongst that number. He is commemorated upon the Thiepval Memorial; sold together with copied research.

For the Medals of his brother, Lance-Corporal A. Senior, M.M., Norfolk Regiment, please see Lot 281.
