Douglas Charles Faichnie was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Leicestershire Regiment on 7 March 1894 and served with them with great distinction during the Boer War. He returned to action during the Great War and served with the Army Ordnance Department in the Balkans from October 1916, also adding a 'mention' (London Gazette 28 November 1917, refers) to his laurels.
