Probably the award made to David McCann, Clerk & Apprentice. RHS case No.:
'At 5.30 pm on 27 August 1871 John Devlin (14) and Richard Nixon, from Belfast, were bathing at Thompson's Bank, Belfast Lough, when they got into difficulties and sank. David McCann (15), from 16 New Dock Street, Belfast, went into the water and supported the two by then unconscious boys until all were helped out.'
The rescue was brought to the attention of the RHS by John Scullin. The Society, granting its bronze Medal to McCann at its committee meeting on 21 November 1871, posted this to Scullin on 7 December 1871 for him to organise a presentation.
