A vast archive of original promotional photographs, family photographs, letters, and ephemera relating to the life of Hugh Hughes 'Hughie' Green

(i)
A large file containing approximately 80 A3 sized pages of original photographs and research, totalling 225 images, commencing with a large portrait photograph of a young Hughie Green, aged 13, signed to his friends, 'Mr and Mrs Beaucaire, Dec 1933', followed by a host of original promotional photographs of 'Hughie Green - The Head "Gangster"', and images from the set of Tom Brown's School Days (1940). The file contains further photographs of Hughie Green's Two Big Road Shows; 'Happiness in the Air' and 'Stars of Tomorrow', including early images from the production studio of Opportunity Knocks with stars such as Mary Hopkin , Frank Carson, Lena Zavaroni and Les Dawson. It adds further images of Hughie at the controls of his twin-engined Piper Aztec, which were used as publicity for The Sky's the Limit, together with more personal moments at home in London toying with his model railway. It concludes with a series of photographs of Christina Sharples modelling for the Brighton 'Bathing Belles' publicity shoot.

(ii)
A hugely comprehensive and ordered scrapbook containing approximately 150 A3 and A4 sized pages of newspaper and magazine articles covering the period from the death of Hughie Green on 3 May 1997, up to 2002. At his funeral ceremony on 7 May 1997, an ex-journalist and friend of Green named Noel Botham stunned the mourners by announcing that Green had a famous 'love child', Paula Yates, a hugely successful television star in her own right and the daughter of Jess Yates of Stars on Sunday fame. This album contains dozens of contemporary stories relating to this time, together with subsequent articles regarding Paula Yates and Michael Hutchence, lead singer of the group INXS. These articles were collected by Christina Sharples, the widow of Green's TV musical director, 'Uncle Bob' Sharples, and were previously offered for sale in June 2013 as a large bundle of disorganised and unarranged newspaper clippings.
