That posting was alongside the New Zealand SAS and Afghan Special Forces; Holmes also patrolled in the Tangin Valley, the site of the loss of 31 Navy Seals of Seal Team 6 the month before his deployment

Mark Holmes enlisted in the Army in December 1998, aged 17 and represented his unit at football, badminton and basketball. He served in Afghanistan from 15 September 2011-11 March 2012 on appointment from Northwood as part of a 2-man Special Forces team to ISAF Special Operating Forces in Wardak Province. That posting was alongside the New Zealand SAS and Afghan Special Forces; Holmes also patrolled in the Tangin Valley, the site of the loss of 31 Navy Seals of Seal Team 6 the month before his deployment. He patrolled in the Valley during his tour; sold together with Tour Appraisal, Discharge Testimonial, besides two photographs of him in Afghanistan.
