Michael Clarke was born on 6 October 1968 and enlisted at Kettering on 12 January 1986. He served with the 2nd Battalion as a Team Commander and deployed on Covert Operations (COP) with the Close Observation Platoon from 30 March-1 October 2004. He clearly enjoyed the role as he expressed interest to the Officer Commanding COP to become its Company Quarter-Master Sergeant if the role became available. This was not his first tour during Operation Banner and he also deployed to Kuwait in 1991 - earning a second Clasp to his GSM, a fact confirmed in his Verification Report. Latterly serving in Afghanistan, his unit suffered the tragic loss of comrades as a result of friendly fire, notably in 2007 after an American F-15 jet bombed them; sold together with Verification Report, five Staff Tour Reports, besides a number of photographs which identify the recipient and a copy of Solider, which covered the Afghanistan tour in 2007.
