A fine North-West Frontier 1930-31 operations I.D.S.M. awarded to Sepoy Manawar Khan, 6-13 Rifles, who shot dead two rebel Wazirs in a close quarters action that cost the life of Captain Ashcroft

Manawar Khan was decorated for the following deeds in an action against Hathi Khel Wazirs in August 1930:
‘This man was Captain Ashcroft’s runner. Captain Ashcroft was first hit on the head by a talwar, and Manawar Khan immediately shot and killed the assailant. Almost at the same moment Captain Ashcroft was shot through the head and Manawar immediately killed this man as well. Manawar Khan was then wounded in the leg, but carried on throughout the action as a runner, displaying a splendid example of devotion to duty and disregard of self’ (The History of the 6th Royal Battalion (Scinde) 13th Frontier Field Force 1934-47, refers).
