M.C. London Gazette 18 July 1917:
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has performed consistent good work when acting as Observation Officer. Often under intense enemy barrage he continued to observe his battery fire, and thus rendered service of the utmost value.'
Second Award Bar London Gazette 26 July 1918:
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He did consistent good work and sent reports from his O.P. throughout a heavy barrage of high explosive and gas shells; also he maintained the fire of his section under persistent neutralising fire, often working with the detachment when casualties caused a shortage.'
Douglas Monro King Baird was born on 24 February 1898 at West Kensington. Appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery, Cornwall (Duke of Cornwall's) Division on 28th August 1914, he served in France from 24 July 1916 and was promoted Captain by war's end. His Medals were issued in September 1921 and send care of Lloyds Bank, Strand. Having spent time in Canada and Argentina during his career, Baird died at Cerrigllwydion Hall, Denbigh on 10 August with an estate worth £37,055; sold with copied research.
