Five: Major S. L. H. Douglas, Royal Lincolnshire Regiment

1939-45 Star; France & Germany Star; Defence and War Medals; General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Palestine 1945-48 (Major S. L. H. Douglas. R. Lincolns.), mounted as worn, good very fine (5)

Stafford Leslie Herries Douglas was born on 21 August 1911, was educated at Millfield and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment in August 1931. Serving in the Far East in the 1930s, he took a tour of Japan and China during May-June 1934, taking in the sights of Tokyo, Kyoto, Shanghai and Nanking amongst others. Promoted Lieutenant on 27 August 1934, he was advanced Temporary Major on 31 April 1941, serving in that rank during the Second World War. Confirmed Major on 1 July 1946, he saw further active service in Palestine and retired on 1 March 1955. An active Polo player, swimmer and rifle shot, he retired to Hampshire and died on 18 August 2007 at The Lawn, Holybourne, Alton. Sold together with a good archive of original material comprising:

Etonhurst VIII 1924 rifle medal, bronze, by Mappin & Webb.

(ii)
S.L.H.D. 3rd Battalion Rifle Meeting, Dover, May 1932, hallmarked silver medal.

(iii)
Lincolnshire Regiment silver prize medal, engraved 1937 120Yds Hurdles, 1st Team.

(iv)
Quikref Diary 1934, covering his travels in China and Japan.

(v)
His pocket address book, including investments.

(vi)
A good selection (20+) of original studio photographs of the recipient and family images, besides three letters to him.
