Four: Acting Regimental Quarter-Master Sergeant R. G. Jones, Royal Signals

1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, in named O.H.M.S. box of issue to 'Mr. R. G. Jones, Albany Street, London, NW1', good very fine (4)

Richard Glyn Jones was born on 28 March 1918, the son of Mr. W. J. Jones of 132 Dora Road, S.W.19., London. A salesman by profession, he enlisted at Fulham for the Royal Signals on 2 May 1938, being promoted Lance Corporal on 11 December 1939 and Sergeant on 29 January 1943. Jones served with the B.E.F. in France from September 1939-June 1940, followed by 2 years in Northern Ireland and postings to the Persia & Iraq Command, Syria and Palestine. Transferred to India on 11 July 1944, he spent his final months serving with the 2nd Indian Airborne Divisional Signals, before being demobilised in the rank of A.R.Q.M.S. on 16 December 1945; sold with original Soldier's Service and Pay Book; Release Leave Certificate, which notes: 'Has being doing (sic) Quartermaster in the absence of an officer'; Soldier's Release Book and Certificate of Transfer to the Army Reserve, dated 22 January 1946.
