Norman Dennis Dale was born on 26 September 1915 at East Retford, Lincolnshire, the son of Tom Dale and Mabel Tinson. He married Doreen May Dawes, daughter of the landlord of the Portland Arms, Nottingham, at St. Barnabas' Cathedral in February 1940 (The Nottingham Journal, refers), and was sent to France shortly thereafter with the British Expeditionary Force. Wounded on 17 May 1940 whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment, he was fortunate to be evacuated home across the Channel and later witnessed further service during the Italian Campaign. He died at Crowborough on 5 February 2000; sold with copied research and a small silver fob, named to 'D. Dale' and engraved to reverse 'H.Q. Wing. Sports. 1933'.
