Ernest S. Saunders was born around 1897 at Upminster, the son of William M. Saunders, a railway engine driver of Cranham Road, Upminster, London. He served with the 4th Battalion, Essex Regiment, followed by the 13th and 14th Battalions of the Gloucestershire Regiment, ending the war with the 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment; sold with copied MIC confirming full entitlement.
William Saunders was born around 1899 at Upminster, and witnessed service with the 4th Battalion, Essex Regiment, followed by the 7th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, and the Tank Corps; sold with copied MIC confirming full entitlement.
