John D'Arcy Keary was born on 5 August 1905 at Lymington, Hampshire and was commissioned from Cranwell on 1 September 1925. Having been attached to the Sudan Defence Force HQ in the late 1930's he saw active service during the Second World War - earning a 'mention' in the process (London Gazette 1 January 1945, refers). Having served as Officer Commanding No. 61 OTU at RAF Keevil in 1946, Keary retired in the rank of Group Captain.
