(x) Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Asst. Surgn. J. H. Loch. M.D. 13th. L.I.), extremely fine

J. H. Loch served during the Indian Mutiny throughout 1858 and was present at the Relief of Azimghur (War Services of the Bengal Medical Department, refers). He later acted as Civil Assistant Surgeon of Mirzapore from 11 July 1859 (The Friend of India, refers). Appointed Surgeon Major, he assumed medical charge of the Station Staff at Shahjahanpur on 2 March 1875 (The "Englishman's" Overland Mail, refers), in addition to a wing of the 45th Native Infantry. In April 1884, Loch was promoted Deputy Surgeon General of the Bengal Medical Establishment (London Gazette 25 April 1884, refers), before taking his retirement in March 1889 (British Medical Journal, refers).
