South Africa 1834-53 (J. Jacobs. A.B.), very fine

James Jacobs served aboard Castor off South Africa, this vessel coming to the assistance following the Birkenhead disaster, the survivors coming aboard her having been rescued by the schooner Lioness. Jacobs subsequently had his Medal was issued to him aboard Leopard, which sailed from Portsmouth in October 1853. She saw wide service in the Baltic at Brahestad, Uleaborg and Bomarsund (Medal) and thence in the Crimea, arriving on 1 January 1855. Leopard was at Anapa, Kertch and during the attack on Kinburn in the Black Sea (Medal & clasp); sold with a detailed file of research and rolls.
