William Whitehead was born in London in 1797 and enlisted for service with the East India Company's Forces on 26 July 1816. Allocated to Bombay from Chatham in August 1816, he travelled to India aboard Inglis to join the 103rd Bombay European Regiment. Whitehead served with his unit in the Third Mahratta War, and was present at the Battles of Kirkee, 5 November 1817, and Poona, 11-16 November 1817. He was returned to England and discharged in 1822 and was present to sign for his Medal & clasp in 1851; sold with copied research.
