Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Corunna (W. Fulton, Serjt. 1st Foot Guards.), good very fine

William Fulton was born in Calmun, Strabane, County Tyrone in 1773 and enlisted in the 1st Foot Guards on 19 April 1793, a weaver by trade. Fulton served with the 1st Battalion at Corunna on 16 January. With Moore's left flank secured by the estuary, the right flank appeared vulnerable around the village of Elvina, in which the Guards were positioned in reserve. Mermet's Divsion attacked and pressed all day, they still gamely forced on up until 5pm in the afternoon after which the signs of withdrawal came. The Guards had hardly returned when they were immediately despatched for the abortive Walcheren Expedition. Returned for service in London, he married fifteen-year-old Phillis Walmsley at St James's Church, Westminster in 1814 and was discharged on 6 March 1816. Fulton died on 11 January 1857; sold together with a detailed file of copied research including muster rolls.
