Abyssinia 1867-68 (R. Arthur. Musician H.M.S. Daphne), light contact marks, good very fine
The Amazon-class sloop H.M.S. Daphne was launched at Pembroke Dockyard on 23 October 1866. She took part in the successful Abyssinian Campaign under Lieutenant General Sir Robert Cornelis Napier, G.C.B., G.C.S.I., and contributed 170 men to the force of some 12,000 soldiers and 1,981 naval personnel which advanced 300 miles to Magdala in April 1867. The ship was subsequently engaged in anti-slavery operations in the Mozambique Channel and the South China Sea, before sailing for Bombay and on towards Suez and the Mediterranean. She was eventually sold out of naval service on 7 November 1882.
