1888 (Mar.) opened-out envelope to U.S.A. bearing Japan 5s. Koban tied by a part strike of the cork propeller postmark with "i.j.p.a./shanghai" c.d.s. (28.3) alongside partly overstruck by Yokohama (4.4) transit c.d.s.; the reverse with a superb strike of the large garter "local post agency nanking" postmark in grey-turquoise with Shanghai Local Post (20.3), San Francisco (22.4) and Columbus arrival (23.4) c.d.s.
