Four: Flight Lieutenant H. G. P. Rees, Royal Air Force, late Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve

1914-15 Star (S. Lt. H. G. P. Rees. R.N.V.R.); British War and Victory Medal (Capt. H. G. P. Rees. R.A.F.); India General Service Medal 1908-35, 1 clasp, Waziristan 1919-21 (F/L H. G. P. Rees. R.A.F.), the last with officially re-impressed naming, very fine (4)

Herbert George Powell Rees was born on 20 October 1897 and joined the Royal Naval Air Service on 5 October 1915. Less than 2 months later, he was knocked unconscious whilst the passenger of a Caudron aircraft which was wrecked on the Gravesend Golf Links. He also received a fracture to the radius and left femur which resulted in a 4 month stay in hospital. Returning to the R.N.A.S. and later R.A.F, he became a 'sound' technical officer, witnessing service at Dunkirk and W/T training at Cranwell in the latter stages of the war. Please note his service record erroneously names him as 'Herbert George Rowell Rees'.
