British War Medal 1914-20 (2510 A.W.O. Cl.2 W. F. Hollis. 6-Lond. R.), good very fine

D.C.M. Edinburgh Gazette 16 November 1916:

'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He assisted his officer in maintaining control of his men in very difficult circumstances, displaying a fine example to his men. Later he crossed the open under heavy fire to obtain connections with another unit, showing great courage.'

Walter F. Hollis served in France from 18 March 1915, and was killed in action aged 21 on 22 October 1916 whilst serving with the 1/6th Battalion, London Regiment. The son of George Henry and Elizabeth Hollis of 37 Campbell Road, Maidstone, he is Commemorated at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
