A rare 'double issue' British War Medal group of three, awarded to Air Mechanic 2nd Class P. D. Quaife, Royal Air Force, late Royal Naval Air Service

Phillip Dellar Quaife was born on 14 October 1896 at Chiswick, London, and initially worked as a musician prior to joining the Royal Naval Air Service on 9 June 1916. Posted to the cross-channel steamer H.M.S. Riviera on 28 July 1916 - which had been converted from a motorcar to a seaplane carrier - he witnessed service with the Dover Patrol, followed by a period guarding the south-western approaches. Quaife transferred briefly to the R.A.F. from 1 April 1918-13 September 1918, returning to serve with the R.N.A.S., and being shore demobilised on 28 February 1919; sold with copied service record and research.
