Charles Arthur Lindup was born on 30 June 1896 and resided at 'Avonbank', Cavendish Road, Sutton, Surrey. He served as a Cadet with the University of London O.T.C. (Medical), and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment, serving in France from 5 May 1916. In November 1916 he was invalided home suffering from influenza, and having recovered, transferred to the Royal Army Medical Corps before returning to his original regiment; sold with copied service record and MIC.
