Samuel Baskerville Chapman was born on 6 September 1887 at Camberwell, London, and joined the Royal Naval Air Service on 4 July 1916 giving his occupation as bank clerk. He later appears to have transferred to the R.A.F. before returning to his civilian career as a bank official. Chapman died on 20 December 1958, probate recording his place of residence as 69 Tankerville Road, Streatham, London S.W.16.
