Arthur Stiff served in France with the 3rd Battalion, Essex Regiment, from 17 November 1915. Transferred to the 11th Battalion, he died of wounds on 9 July 1918 aged 35. The son of Henry and Alice Stiff, of Capel St. Mary, Suffolk, and husband of Jane Agnes Stiff of 6 Albion Road, Wood Street, Walthamstow, London, he is buried at Nine Elms British Cemetery in West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. His headstone bears the poignant inscription, 'In Loving Memory of my Dear Husband who died to Save us All.' Sold with copied MIC and C.W.G.C. details.
