Royal Humane Society bronze medal (Alfred Harrison. P.S. 26th. Sept. 1908.), mounted as worn on original wearing pin, in Elkington & Co. case of issue, minor edge nicks, good very fine

R.H.S. Report number 36415:

'On the 26th September 1908, an old man of 66 accidentally fell into the Wensum at Norwich, there being a depth of 10 feet. Harrison plunged in and succeeded in saving him.'

Sold with a copied article from the Eastern Evening News, dated 18 November 1908, titled 'Norwich, Plucky Policeman.' The piece goes on to add that the elderly gentlemen had fallen into the Wensum at Pull's Ferry, shortly before midnight.

Pull's Ferry is a medieval watergate along the riverside walk, named after John Pull who ran the ferry across the Wensum from 1796-1841; sold with copied research.
