LK in deep black, large to very large margins all round and cancelled by bright orange-red Maltese Cross on wrapper to Tranent School; redirected to Edinburgh with 1d. plate Ia, QD in a greyish shade, small to very large margins and cancelled by dull red Maltese Cross, the reverse with indistinct Scottish despatch datestamp, Tranent 1840 (3 Nov.) and Edinburgh (5.11) c.d.s.; there is some light ageing but a very attractive redirected cover bearing the additional postage.
