The Bisects
1859 (21 Sept.) blue entire ex the "Turner" correspondence from Singapore to Glasgow, marked "Via Marseilles", bearing 1856 4a. black single and diagonal bisect and 8a. carmine strip of three, all clearly cancelled and tied by "B/172" obliterators and showing, on reverse, "singapore/p.o." double-ring datestamp in red and arrival c.d.s. (11.11); some staining around the single 4a. The highest known bisect franking and one of two recorded. A magnificent cover of the highest calibre and a stunning exhibition item. R.P.S.
