Prestwich hoard, Sotheby, 6 December 1974, lot 80
'This coin is of some importance in that not only is the moneyer previously unrecorded but the practice of adding the initial of the moneyer's surname is virtually unknown as early as the reign of Stephen (the exception being Tierri D of London striking Pennies of type 2).
Surname initials or abbreviations were used more commonly in the 'Tealby' and 'Short Cross' coinages of Henry II, Richard I, John and Henry III, in order to distinguish between two moneyers of the same name in the same town.'
For coins of Tierri D see lots 692 and 701
