Collection of eight documents from 1757-1816 including two documents relating to Emanuel Mendez da Costa, one dated 1757 (28 September) in da Costa's hand titled "List or Catalogue of the English Fossils Humbly presented to Her Serene Highness the Reigning Princess of Waldeck by Her Serene Highness's Most devoted Humble Servant Emanuel Mendes da Costa", 1765 (9 February) copy of "Minutes of the Board of Light[?]", 1816 (18 March) ALS to John Walker from "John Galton", 1819 (June) ALS signed "Joseph Arnold" detailing enclosed autographs (not present) and of his purchase list of various plants bought while in Canton (present).

Emanuel Mendez da Costa (1717-1791), one of the first Jewish Fellows of the Royal Society of London (1747) and their librarian. He was eventually removed from his position in 1767, convicted of fraud and sentenced to five years in debtors' prison for withholding members' subscription fees.
