A rare Payment Warrant signed by Charles II: a manuscript instruction to Sir Stephen Fox, Paymaster General of Land Forces in England, for payment of £8 to Doctor John Troutbeck, "Chirurgion to the Queen's Troope of Guards for medicaments" for one year, Setpember 1669 to September 1670. Signed on the reverse by Troutbeck as a recipt for the monies. Note the archaic spelling of Surgeon. Charles II got into serious debt during the wars with Holland leading to the infamous stopping of exchequer payments in 1672. Some repairs on the reverse but otherwise a handsome document and a rare signature of the King.
