Formed in 1864 by the amalgamation of several companies operating routes from Newcastle to London, Dunkirk, Antwerp, Rotterdam and Hamburg. Amalgamated with other companies to form Tyne Tees Steamship Company in 1904. Sir William Haswell Stephenson (1836-1918), director of many local companies, Lord Mayor of Newcastle several times. VF.
