1857 (11 May) large part envelope ex the Mottram correspondence from Otago to London, bearing 1/- pale yellow-green bisected vertically and crisply cancelled "18", London Paid arrival tombstone datestamp (5.9) alongside, despatch datestamp on reverse; the face panel refolded so that part of the obliterator shows on the reverse . A neat and attractive example of this very rare bisect franking. The earliest dated example of the London print bisect covers, of which just eight are recorded. S.G. 3a, £42,000. Photo
