1892 (Aug.) opened-out envelope to Dodge County, U.S.A. bearing, on the reverse, a good strike of the large garter "local post agency/nanking" in blue-black, Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. (25.8) in blue, Yokohama (1.9) and Fox Lake arrival (26.9) along with Shanghai postman's delivery note in red crayon (subsequently crossed through). The address side with Yokohama c.d.s., manuscript "25c" in pencil and five U.S. 5c. Postage Due stamps (mostly obscuring another Japanese postmark) cancelled by cork postmark; slightly reduced at right removing part of one of the postage due stamps. A spectacular and iconic underpaid cover from Nanking and unique in this respect. Photo
