4c. on 4ca. dull pink variety surcharge inverted in a block of four cancelled by a single strike of Pakhoi Dollar dater of 1897 (8 May) (the earliest recorded date for this postmark). These stamps come from the sheet where the surcharge is centred higher and the basic stamps with wide margin at foot showing traces of the designs below. A fine and attractive example of this rare multiple which is the only used block. S.G. 81a; Chan 77b. Photo

Two sheets of this error were released, a possible 160 stamps, of these we have records of 72 examples, only a few are used


1897年慈禧壽辰紀念三版加蓋大字短距洋銀肆分蓋於肆分四方連，加蓋倒蓋變體，銷北海1897年5月8日大圓日戳 (此郵戳之最早使用記錄)。 此方連出自一加蓋略為偏高之全票，品相佳，此面值之四方連為唯一已知使用之方連票。_x000D_ _x000D_ 只有兩張此變體之全票流出使用，可能為160枚，其中72枚已有記錄，只有數枚為舊票
