Struck to commemorate the birth of Prince Charles (the future King). Charles was the first English Prince, born in England, who was entitled to bear these arms. The radial lines between the shields allude to the appearance of a star, which was observed at the time the King was proceeding to St. Paul's to return thanks for the birth of his son.
