Scotland, Charles I (1625-49), gold Unit, third coinage, type I ~ 'Briot's issue', 9.92g, 6h, half-length king right, wearing ornate armour, holding orb and sceptre, small thistle and letter b sideways to left above crown, rev. crowned shield dividing cypher (Burns 3, fig.1032 same dies; SCBI 35 [Ashmolean ~ Scottish Coins], 1392 same dies; S.5531), a light crease before nose and trace roughness on edge, otherwise lightly toned, good very fine, a pleasing example of this ever-popular type
