Joseph Reid Stirrat was born in Scotland on 5 January 1915. He married Janet Robertson Sweenie in February 1938, and in the same year he attested for the 56th (Independent) Light Anti-Aircraft Battery, Royal Artillery. He earned the B.E.M. while serving with this unit during the Second World War. Discharged on 25 November 1945, he died in Scotland on 18 November 1979; sold with copied London Gazette entry.
