George Mason served in France from 7 October 1914 with the 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. After briefly transferring to the Scottish Rifles, he returned to his former regiment and was promoted Sergeant and awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal in 1927; further entitled to clasp and rosette.
