The 3rd Battalion, 9th Gurkha Rifles served as Chindits in 1944 as part of the 77th Brigade led by Brigadier Calvert, which also included the 1st Battalion, King's (Liverpool) Regiment, the 1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers and the 1st Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment.
