Joseph Law was born around 1869 at Bradford, Yorkshire. A concrete slab maker, he served with the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment before attesting for the 2nd Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment on 30 January 1900. Posted to South Africa from 22 February 1900-20 April 1901, Law was discharged on termination of engagement on 14 April 1901 and returned home to live with his wife Louisa at 76 Laurel Street, Bradford; sold with copied service record which makes no mention of service with the Royal Highlanders, likely an administrative error.
