James Hall served in France with the 11th (Service) Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps, from 21 July 1915. They were heavily engaged at the Battle of Mont Sorrel in June 1916, the Battle of Delville Wood in July, and the Battles of Guillemont and Flers-Coucelette in September.
